What workplace mediation is

A private, voluntary conversation, held by someone with no stake in the outcome.

Workplace mediation is a confidential meeting between people whose working relationship has broken down, facilitated by an impartial third party. I do not investigate, judge or apportion blame. I create the conditions in which two colleagues can finally say what has gone unsaid, and then agree, in their own words, how they will work together from here.

It is most effective early: when a manager and an employee have stopped talking properly, when a team has split into camps, or when a grievance has been raised but nobody actually wants a formal hearing. It is equally useful late, after an investigation has concluded and the two people still have to share an office in Macclesfield or Warrington on Monday morning.

A session usually runs across a single day. I meet each person separately first, then bring them together with clear ground rules. The conversation moves from what happened, to the impact it had, to what each person needs going forward. Most mediations end with a short written agreement, drafted by the participants themselves. Nothing is reported back beyond what they choose to share.

Formal grievance and disciplinary processes decide who was right. That is sometimes necessary, but it is adversarial, slow, and it leaves a working relationship intact only on paper. Mediation is faster, costs a fraction of a tribunal defence, and, because the outcome belongs to the participants rather than to a panel, it tends to hold. It also protects the people around the dispute: teams in Chester, Wilmslow and across the North West feel a prolonged conflict long before HR hears about it.

How it works

Step one

Initial consultation (free)

A confidential call to understand the situation, the people involved and whether mediation is the right route.

Step two

Individual pre-mediation meetings

Each participant meets me privately, in person or online, to speak openly and prepare for the joint session.

Step three

Joint mediation session

A structured day together, usually on neutral ground in Cheshire, ending with an agreement both sides own.

For HR professionals

Making a referral is straightforward. I work discreetly with your HR team or legal advisers to handle cases confidentially.

One call or email is enough to start. I can advise on whether mediation is appropriate before any commitment, work alongside an ongoing grievance process, and report back only on outcomes agreed by the participants. I travel to employers across Cheshire and the North West, including Chester, Macclesfield, Wilmslow and Warrington, or arrange neutral premises where discretion matters.

Resolve it before it escalates.
