Mediation works with two people. Coaching works with one: you.
Conflict resolution coaching is a confidential, one-to-one professional service. We take one specific situation, a manager who dreads a weekly one-to-one, a colleague relationship that has quietly soured, a neighbour dispute that has started to keep you awake, and we work out what is actually happening, what you can influence and what you will do next.
The difference from mediation is straightforward. Mediation requires both parties in a dispute to sit down together with an impartial third party. Coaching requires only you. There is no need for the other person to agree to anything, to know about it, or even to be willing to talk. That makes it the right choice when a dispute is not yet formal, when the other side has declined mediation, or when the real issue is your own confidence in handling conflict rather than one particular disagreement.
It is also not therapy. We do not spend the time on your childhood or your feelings for their own sake. This is a skills service: reading a conflict accurately, opening a hard conversation without escalating it, holding a boundary, staying steady when someone else is not, and recovering when a conversation goes badly. You leave with language you can actually use.
Most people come for a handful of sessions rather than an open-ended arrangement. The aim is that you build enough resilience and enough of a plan that you no longer need me, and that the next difficult situation, at work in Chester or Warrington or at home in Macclesfield, is one you already know how to approach.
Who it is for
- Managers dealing with conflict in their team
- Individuals struggling with a difficult colleague or neighbour
- People preparing for a difficult conversation
- Those who find conflict avoidance is affecting their work or relationships
- HR professionals who want to build their own conflict skills
What a session involves
Sixty to ninety minutes, built entirely around your situation.
Sessions run for 60 to 90 minutes and take place in person across Cheshire or online, whichever suits you. There is no fixed curriculum. We start with the situation you bring, map out who is involved and what is at stake, then work through practical tools you can apply immediately: how to frame an opening line, how to respond when the conversation turns, how to keep the outcome you want in view. You finish with a clear action plan and a note of what to do if it does not go to plan.
